Head markings help identify many common fasteners, but the purchase requirement should come from the governing drawing or specification. Similar markings and familiar grade names do not establish every dimensional, chemical, mechanical, or documentation requirement.

A finish or coating modifies the surface and may affect corrosion protection, appearance, friction, installation, or compliance. NASA's design manual treats material selection and platings/coatings as separate selection decisions.
